Washington
Have you ever seen a mountain floating in the sky? That’s exactly what Mt. Rainier looks like from Seattle, and it’s one of the most stunning views in the Pacific Northwest. Don’t miss the chance to travel between Washington’s many outlying islands for truly spectacular views you won’t find anywhere else in the US.
Texas
There are few places where you can experience fields of bluebonnets, massive cliff faces, waterfalls, beaches, and spring-fed swimming pools all in one place, but Texas fits the bill. If sightseeing is part of your ideal camping trip, this one state has more than you can experience in a lifetime.
Oregon
Home to Crater Lake National Park and some of the largest naturally clean sources of water in the States, Oregon is an excellent place to enjoy the great outdoors. If you love a soothing river canoeing adventure, don’t miss the massive Hood River!
Oklahoma
Up for cabins, cottages, and caves? Check out Robbers Cave and Lake Wister to get your fill — Oklahoma has no shortage of natural beauty or ways to enjoy it. Alternatively, kick up some dirt and enjoy some dune buggy action in Little Sahara State Park in 1600 acres of sandy terrain!
Montana
Yellowstone — need we say more? Home to geysers, ancient thermal pools, and some of the only wolves still native to the US, Montana may very well pack more into a single state than you can find anywhere else. This state is a must for all serious campers!
Idaho
Love waterfalls, lakes, and snow-capped mountains? There’s no shortage of outdoor adventures for you in Idaho! You can use Boise as a jumping-off point while enjoying excellent food and live music and spend the days venturing through the surrounding landscape on foot or by bike.
Hawaii
While Hawaii may not present a ton of ‘traditional’ camping opportunities, there are few places where you can set up shop around rainforests and active volcanoes. The state has plenty of outdoor activities to offer, but if you’re able to make the journey, the scenery is truly exceptional.
Alaska
If you’ve never been outside the contiguous US, seeing Alaska’s unblemished landscape is a real treat. For a nice, calm journey, the state’s fishing can’t be beaten; for the adventurous traveler, check out dog sledding!
Arkansas
This state is well-known for the Ozark mountain range, though there’s far more to Arkansas’s wilderness than perhaps even its residents know. You can make a trip to Hot Springs National Park, climb Mountain Magazine, or enjoy any number of state parks available!
Wyoming
The Grand Tetons are a sight to behold — even many experienced campers have never seen the type of views you’ll find at Jenny Lake, Jackson Lake, Mormon Row, and the countless scenic overlooks you can stop at along the way. Even the drive is worth it if only for the scenery!
